Difference between a Suspended and a Revoked License?

If you get your license suspended or revoked, it can be a huge hassle. A lot of people believe that suspended and revoked are the same, but there are differences. To be frank, a suspended license is bad. A revoked license is very bad. Both can happen as a result of a driving infraction involving a DWI or traffic fines.

If you get your license suspended or revoked, you will need help from an experienced defense attorney. Only they can help you get your driving privileges restored. Call on the experts at JS Defense for help. Molli Meyer is an experienced paralegal with several years in civil rights and criminal defense litigation.

Suspended driver’s license

A suspended driver’s license means a temporary halt on your driving privileges. You are not under any circumstance allowed to drive on a suspended license. You can have a definite or indefinite suspension. The reason for license suspension can vary from state to state. But some of the common reasons for suspension include DUI, moving violations, driving without the proper insurance, or too many tickets.

Also, the state has the right to keep your license suspended if you have a tax lien or owe back child support. The DMV in your state will not lift the suspension until those items are cleared up.

Revoked driver’s license

If you get your driver’s license revoked, that means that it has been canceled and cannot be reinstated. You will have to jump through several hoops to get your license back. While the stipulations vary from state to state, you will likely have to pay all outstanding fees and penalties. You will also need to retake both the written and road tests.

If your license is reinstated, you will be required to walk a very fine line. If you have additional traffic offenses, such as moving violations, you could get it revoked again. If this happens, hire a defense attorney who may be able to help you get back on the road.

If your driver’s license has been suspended or revoked, you should speak with a defense attorney to understand your rights. A defense attorney can help you understand what you need to do in order to get the suspension or revocation lifted.
